Guest Conductor & Clinician at Windsor Choral Festival

Guest Conductor & Clinician, Windsor Choral Festival. Organized by Windsor Classic Chorale.

The Windsor Choral Festival is an annual event that brings together choral singers from across Windsor-Essex Region to share their love of singing with one another. The Festival provides choral clinics for ongoing vocal training and education free of charge, encouraging community through collaborative singing. With an explicit mandate to promote Canadian choral music, the Festival features a Canadian work every year as a massed choir piece in the grand finale concert, United in Song. The Windsor Choral Festival 2020 will be held March 5-7, 2020 with clinician Dr. Tracy Wong of McMaster University. We are very excited to let you know that we have also commissioned Dr. Wong to write a massed choir piece for the grand finale concert!

Dr. Tracy Wong hails from Malaysia and is a choral conductor, music educator, and composer. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (Choral Conducting) from the University of Toronto. She is also a proud recipient of the 2016 and 2017 Elmer Iseler National Graduate Fellowship in Choral Conducting. She is presently an Assistant Professor at McMaster University. Tracy has led choirs in Malaysia and Canada, including the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir, University of Toronto Women’s Chorus, Young Voices Toronto, and Mississauga Festival Youth Choir. Tracy’s choral works have been performed by choirs all over the world with publications through Cypress Music.

This year, choirs who register for the Windsor Choral Festival will receive a 30-minute choir clinic with Dr. Wong between March 5-7, 2019. Choirs should prepare two pieces for the clinic, and attend this session with their director and accompanist (if applicable). Choirs may also have the opportunity to sing their two pieces as well as the massed choir piece in the grand finale concert the evening of March 7th. Scores will be available in November for participating choirs.
